Articles/News Clips That Relate to the Kite Runner and My Motifs:

Friendship:

This article is about Iran creating an alliance with Afghanistan. The Taliban had killed a group or Iranian diplomats, and Iranian and Afghan troops gathered along the borders of the two countries to fight back. The Iranians also wanted to help Afghanistan rebuild, to help them out like true friends would. However, later on, after the Taliban loses power, there is some tension. There are many, many Afghan refugees and migrants, where will they all go? And then there's also the problem of Kabul's friendship with the US that could be standing in the way of the alliance with Iran.

I believe that this article relates to my motif of friendship in a few ways. First of all, the Iranians are strong enough and willing enough to stand up against the Taliban with the Afghans by their side and fight them. Most countries would've been scared to help, but that Iranians knew what they were doing and they wanted to help Afghanistan, like friends. Next, Iran created an alliance with Afghanistan after the Taliban lost power in a certain area, and they wanted to help the Afghans in Kabul build back up and reconstruct. Whenever friends fall, there is always a good friend that would come along and help them up, just like the Iranians. Finally, there was a little tension between the Iranians and the Afghans. But, like in every good friendship or alliance, there will be some hardships or conflict. Eventually, it works out to where it's all good again. In this article, Iran is a very decent and strong alliance (friend) to Afghanistan.

Salvation/Redemption:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7896173.stm
President Obama is planning on keeping troops in Afghanistan to continue fighting, and is guessing that it won't end for quite some time. There could be an addition of up to 30000-60000 troops in Afghanistan. Obama believes that the US can't reach their achievable goals without help from allies. The president, the troops, the NATO, and the government, will be working really hard to reach the goals they are trying to establish in Afghanistan. Looking at it now, they could be there for a while.

I think that that this article relates to my motif of salvation/redemption in a couple of ways. First of all, Obama is planning on sending more troops to Afghanistan to try to help the Afghans out from the Taliban. That is making a sacrifice for our country and offering salvation to Afghanistan. The second way is that maybe in the end, the goals will be reached. People will redeem themselves, and things will change for the better. However, that could take many years. There is so much rebuilding and fighting to do before any good can happen or goals can be reached. In the end, it may be worth it though. Sometimes, the best things come from making sacrifices to help yourself or others, and then people turning themsleves around or finally realizing right from wrong. In this article, the US and its allies are making big sacrifices just to offer salvation and redemption to the Afghan people and the Taliban.
